4. Visit the Dodo Museum, this enlightened me as it reminded me of the endangered Rhino in South Africa. If we do not protect our animals, we will no longer be known for the ‘Big Five”.  IMG_2103⠀⠀

5. Visit Caudan Waterfront in Port Louis, an interesting fact was that this waterfront was built by the same architects that built V and A waterfront in Cape Town. IMG_2117 ⠀⠀

6. Drink a coconut cocktail, coconuts grow on trees all over the island and nothing beats Mauritian Rum.IMG_2319Talking about Mauritian rum, visit a rum distillery, I got the chance to visit the Chamarel Rum Distillery up in the mountainous area and got to sample the various rums that are made and sold at Chamarel. 7. Visit the Southern most tip of Mauritius, Maconde point, here you will witness where the river meets the sea. You can also view the curved road. IMG_2437

⠀8. Visit the Trou aux Cerfs Crater, I was lucky enough to capture this beautiful picture even though it was raining for most of our tour.  IMG_2256 ⠀ ⠀

9. Go for an under water sea walk, because the currents are not so strong in Mauritius its an ideal place to go for an under water sea walk. You are taken out with a boat into the sea, where you will climb down the boat to where the water is only about 3 metres deep, you are supplied with a glass helmet, sea shoes and weights. You don’t need to be able to swim to do this activity. During the activity you will be able to feed tropical fish, you are filmed and can purchase your video at the end of the trip. Remember to have enough cash with you, as some of the vendors do not have cardmachines. 7qoait6k13jpg

10. Get traditional Mehndi/ Henna done by a local, this only takes a few minutes and dries within half an hour. IMG_2234

⠀11. Visit Black River Gorges National Park, where you can view the 7 coloured earth, chamarel waterfall and sample coffee indigenous to the island. IMG_2474   ⠀

12.  Visit the sacred Grand Bassin Hindu Temple, Mauritius is known for the second largest Hindu community outside of India and also has the largest statue of Shiva in Mauritius, which stands at 33 metres tall. IMG_2219  ⠀
