As part of our choice for restaurant week, my boyfriend and I enjoyed date night at the elegant Black Bamboo. The menu was inspired by Pellie Grobler and it was made up of the most popular dishes of Black Bamboo including the new menu items which still are to make their debut.
Upon entering the gates, you are surrounded by beautiful modern sculptures.
As we were shown to our table, we were welcomed with a drink and an appetizer of salmon with cream cheese.
For our first course I had a tomato and prawn dish consisting of a selection of heirloom tomatoes, roasted pepper ragu, sautéed prawns and tomato consommé with a side of prawn ceviche.
My boyfriend had seared yellow fin tuna which is the most popular starter, it was served with broccoli purée and pumpkin seed salsa.
After the starters we were served cranberry bread with butter and honey. This was very interesting as you are usually served bread as you are seated.
For the main meal I had the grilled seabass with pea purée, confit parsnips, sautéed peas, Polenta duchess, fresh parsnips shavings, bacon crumble and a lemon butter sauce.
My boyfriend had the grilled sirloin with pearl batley risotto, beetroot strings, glazed beetroot, parsnip purée, crispy fennel and bordelaise sauce.
Dessert course was a Avocado Tart, creamy avocado mousse with rice puffs, lychee jelly, compressed apple, lemon cream, lychee sorbet and spun sugar.
My boyfriend had the Lemon Meringue v3.0, with pine nut paste, lemon and thyme jelly, meringue shards and pine nut ice cream.
We ended our date night with complimentary chocolate martinis.
Our servers Bridgette and Ferez ensured that the standards of this fine dining restaurant were upheld through our dining experience.
Thank you for the impeccable service, delicious dishes all served with finesse.
Can’t wait to return!
