Chia Seed Breakfast Recipe

I have recently discovered the new healthly food trend of chia seeds. Chia seeds are a great source of fibre and protein.

I purchased a 250g bag from the Wellness Warehouse at the newly renovated Menlyn Park for R79.00, it sounds quite pricy but the best thing about chia seeds is that you just need a little of it.

Here is my simple recipe for a yummy breakfast that tastes like dessert.

Ingredients (serves 1):
125 ml milk of choice (I chose Almond milk)
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp honey
¼ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp vanilla essence
1 banana

 

Method: 
1. Combine the milk, chia seeds, honey, cinnamon and vanilla essence in a small bowl and mix.

2. Cover with plastic film and place in the fridge  overnight. Before serving, place one half of the banana in a small bowl and mash with a fork until smooth.

3. Add the mashed banana to the chia pudding and mix until well combined. Slice the remaining banana into thin slices.

Top with the sliced banana.

 

Chia seeds have a consistency of a papaya, it is strange at first but it tastes great.

This is my new favorite breakfast and it is healthy too.
