DE KLOOF X RESTAURANT WEEK

Spring Restaurant Week time so we absolutely had to make this our first visit to De Kloof in the beautiful Waterkloof Golf Estate.

We have visited the chilled restu below also known as DK Burgers a couple of times before however we never indulged ourself in the experience above. We arrived just as the sun was setting and we were seated on the terrace to enjoy the majestic views of Pretoria to start our evening.

De Kloof is the more prestigious fine dining experience of the DK group, should you like us not have been to De Kloof but tasted the DK Wagyu beef burgers downstairs then please powder your noses, put on a formal shirt and rock them heels. The ambience is romantic with the views, soft music and lightly lit luminescence making it a perfect date night for any special occasion or just ensuring that your partner feels special from time to time.

First things first, a freshly baked bread and butter to enjoy before we placed our complete dinner menu order for the evening.

A special evening must always be complemented by a unique beverage so Paul Clover Gewürztraminer was the pick of the evening, this white wine is crisp and refreshing especially on a hot Summer’s evening.

The 1st course was a “Gott-Apple” as one of the starters which is a cauliflower and goat cheese fondant, roasted apple purée, walnuts and MCC poached apples. This starter is very rich and the wine complimented this dish very well.

Tc had an adventurous starter “De-livery”: a trio of liver pattes described below:

  • Calf lover pate, cucumber, pickled onion.
  • Duck liver parfait, berry duxelle.
  • Impala liver and duck gizzard parfait, spiked cherry compote and butternut crisp.

Interesting palette tantalising start to the evening followed up by our mains.

I ordered the “Squid VS Octopus”: Basil pesto and grana padano squid, braised and fried octopus, potato and mussel gratin, bok choy.

Tc ordered the “De- Stijl(ish) Vorken”: Masterstock braised pork belly, pork cheek stuffed trotter complimented with apple, butternut, beetroot, braised cabbage, sweet potato and mustard croquette, savannah cider and mustard jus. As you can see the plating is beautiful and the pork was soft and melted in your mouth.

Our tummies couldn’t wait for what was in store for Dessert:

Tc had the “Pretty in Pink”: Strawberry chips, strawberry ice cream, strawberry meringue, strawberry mille feuille and paired with a mint springbokkie martini which was made by our waiter Columbus and definitely had a kick.

I had the “Coconut”: Coconut baked cheesecake, coconut cookie, Malibu Créme, lemon verbena sorbet and toasted coconut paired with a chilled Malibu rum shot.

Fantastic cuisine and superb service thank you to the De Kloof team, as we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Definitely a romantic outing option.
